More than 2 months away from home, I got an offer I couldn't refuse, a cycling friend was with guide for the TIK exercise cycling club at Lake Como, a place he knows really well and he had my favorite driver with him, who knows how to cheer on us when we suffer on the climbs. He asked me to join them and since I also know the chairman of the club it wasn't a difficult decision.
The drive from Bormio to Lecco is approx. 140 km. here I found an excellent free camper pitch, only 5 km from the hotel where TIK was staying.
On the first ride we drove along the western side of Lake Como, we had to go up Ghisallo, a little mega for bicycle tourists, a beautiful trip but also a trip with many tunnels, so remember the light. Fortunately, the tunnels are on a flat road and there are lots of cyclists in the tunnels. Madonna del Ghisallo is not the hardest climb, but it is still 16.4 km at an average of 4.2% and goes up and down a bit, so a really good climb to start with. At the top is the Museo del Ciclismo and the sanctuary Santuario Madonna del Ghisallo, patron of cyclists, where you can see memorabilia from all the great masters, both living and deceased.
The next day was a tough climb Passo di Valcava 11.5 km 8.1%, but first we had to climb the somewhat milder climb to Carenno 6.4 km with 6%, here I got my first punter of the trip a long thin seam had effectively ensured that I for the first time on thi journey had to find a spare hose and pump. Back to the Passo di Valcava climb, which starts out soft, but after 7.5 km it starts to take hold with gradients up to 18%. At the top I chose to drive down to my motorhome, as the others drove on to the new hotel in the mountains in the town of Rota D'Imagna where they would stay for a couple of days.
After a quick shower in the camper, the trip continued to Bracilione, where I found a great new motorhome pitch with water, electricity and so on and it was only 5 km from the others, this gave me the opportunity to drive a little more with them, but it turned out that everything was not as it should be at the motorhome site. Good thing it was brand new, but nothing worked and I had been so careless as to drive from the previous place without emptying and filling. So it's good that the world's best driver is only 5 km away, he made sure I got water in the car so I could take a shower and cook some food when I got home from the next day's trip, which was my last ride with TIk this time. The next day I woke up to find that the campsite had been turned into a large garbage area with garbage containers all over it, I decided to drive on and said a nice goodbye to TIK.
