Molines-en-Queyras, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur 2022

approx. 68 km. north of Jausiers halfway up Col Agnel at approx. 1700 meters high, I found a very peaceful camper place. The square is completely open without shade, but at an altitude of 1700 meters it is fortunately a bit cooler, and by the square there was a restaurant where it was Christmas all year round. In addition, there were good public toilets opposite the restaurant.

The next day I planned to drive up to the Col d'Izoard from this side, but I felt uncomfortable and chose to drive on a somewhat flatter terrain, but to get home I had to go up to the camper at 1700 meters, when I came up I was fine and chose to continue up to Saint Veran at 2050 meters altitude, a cute little town where people walked with donkeys and rode horses.

The next day I had big plans again, I wanted to go up over Col Agnel and down the other side to Casteldelfino in Italy and back again, a climb that should be particularly beautiful and hard because of the last 9 km that climbs by almost 10 %, but I felt uncomfortable again and at the top I got cold feet and quietly rolled down to the camper again, maybe some altitude sickness or just general exhaustion after 6 weeks and about 53,000 meters of altitude.

My routes:

Climbs:

  • Col Agnel

  • Saint Veran

  • Valpréveyre
